Aura Conci
Aura Conci was born in 1957. She received her BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in, 1979 (UFES-Universidade Federal do Espirito Santo), 1983 (PUC-Rio, Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Rio de Janeiro), and 1988 (PUC-Rio, Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Rio de Janeiro) respectively.
She is currently a Professor in the Computer Science Department (Computer Institute - IC) at Federal Fluminense University - UFF, Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro Brasil. Her fields of interest are: Finite element methods, Numerical methods applied to engineering, Fractal geometry, Pattern recognition, Machine learning, Computer vision and Graphics. She has published approx 170 papers worlwide (papers published in scientific journals (25) and conferences nationally and internationally(145)). She is the author the books: Computacao Grafica -Theory and Practice (vol. 1 and vol. 2), Javascript for building Web Pages.
Prof Conci coordinates the Visual Lab and the project Image Analysis for Mastologic Aplications. She participate in the MACC Medical Aided for Scietific Computation (Medicina Assistida por Computação Científica), GPU´s Brazilian Clusters and Medical Image Processing.
She is member of the international program committee of IWSSIP and International Conference on Geometry and Graphics. She was the general chair of the 17th Conference IWSSIP (Rio de Janeiro 2010).
Pavol Podhradský
Pavol Podhradský was born in 1943. He received his MSc degree in 1965 and PhD degree in 1980 at SVŠT (Slovenská vysoká škola technická) in Bratislava. In 2000 he became an university professor and since that time he has acted as the professor at Telecommunication Department of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (former Slovenská vysoká škola technická).
His fields of interest are: Theory of communication systems, Intelligent Networks, Network architectures, Next generation networks (NGN), NGN protocols, Multimedia services and applications, Platforms for e/m-learning. He has published more than 100 papers worldwide. He is the co-author of 7 books.
Prof Podhradský coordinates the NGN Lab and the research project Multimedia services and applications in the environment of the new generation of converged network architecture. He participates in several international research and educational projects (Eureka/Celtic project NetLab, LdV projects: ELefANTC, IntEleCT, MLARG).
Hojjat Adeli
Hojjat Adeli is Professor in the Departments of Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Informatics, Electrical and Computer Engineering at The Ohio State University. He is holder of Lichtenstein Professorship.
He has authored over 410 research and scientific publications, since 1976 when he received his Ph.D. from Stanford University. He has been published in 72 different journals. He is author of ten books including Machine Learning - Neural Networks, Genetic Algorithms, and Fuzzy Systems, Wiley, 1995, Neurocomputing for Design Automation, CRC Press, 1998, Distributed Computer-Aided Engineering, CRC Press, 1999, Control, Optimization, and Smart Structures - High-Performance Bridges and Buildings of the Future, Wiley, 1999, and Wavelets to Enhance Computational Intelligence, Wiley, 2005.
He has also edited twelve books including Knowledge Engineering - Vol. I - Fundamentals and Vol. II -Applications, McGraw-Hill, 1990, Intelligent Information Systems, IEEE Computer Society, 1997. In 1998 he received the Distinguished Scholar Award from The Ohio State University "in recognition of extraordinary accomplishment in research and scholarship".
Kalman Fazekas
Kalman Fazekas was born in Budapest on 4th November, 1938. His
nationality: Hungarian. He received the M.Sc. degree in electrical
engineering in 1962, and in teacher engineering in 1968 from the
Technical University of Budapest. Since 1967, he is ass. professor at
the Department of Microwave Telecommunications. He is the head of Signal
Processing and Multimedia Laboratory. His research interest and activity
includes image coding, image processing, parallel processing, and
multimedia technology.
He participates in the following international
projects: COST 229: Applications of Digital Signal Processing to
Telecommunications (1992-1995), COST 254: Intelligent Processing and
Facilities for Communication Terminals (started in 1996) COPERNICUS
1529: Development of Teleworking and Multimedia Services over High Speed
Digital Network (1995-1997) MANADIX Research Network: Motion Analysis
for Advanced Image Communication Systems (1995-1997), Phare-Accord
Programme: "MASIP" project: Massively Parallel Implementation of
Algorithms for Signal and Image Processing Systems (1994-1995), CEEPUS.
His professional activities are: Hungarian representative of COST
TC-TIST, Senior Member of IEEE, Secretary of IEEE Joint COM, ED, AP, MTT
Chapter of IEEE Hungary Section, Member of EURASIP, Member of EUROMICRO,
correspondent of EUROMICRO Board, Member of MMEV (World Federation of
Hungarian Engineers and Architects), Member of Editorial Board of
International Journal "Image Processing & Communications", and 2 Journal
of Electrical Engineering2 , Guest Editor of "Communications" Journal in
1994, Chairman and organizer of several international workshops
conferences, and meetings. Author and coauthor of 10 text-books, more
than 20 longer research studies, and more than 150 papers and conference
presentations, master theses.
